Entered into eternal rest Tuesday July 14, 1964. Samuel S. Stewart, 145 Hunterdon Street, a retired attendance offer for the Newark Board of Education died last night in East Orange Veterans Hospital. He was 71. Born in Cripple Creek, Colorado, Mr. Stewart lived most of his life in Newark. He was an attendance officer from 1942 until 1961 when he retired. Since then he has been self employed in the real estate business. He was a landscape artist and his nature scenes have been exhibited in New York and New Jersey. Mr. Stewart was a member of the Urban League of New Jersey, The Hugh J. Addionizio Association and the Essex Co. Democratic Association. He was also a member of the Pvt. Albert Harvey VFW Post, 2139, and the Guyton Callahan American Legion Post #152. He was a member of the 13th Avenue Presbyterian Church. Mr. Stewart leaves his wife, Mrs. Ruth Stewart, a son, Samuel Stewart Jr., of Newark, five Daughters, Mrs. Elizabeth Gwyn of Kearny, Mrs. Regina Mosely of Newark, Mrs. Patricia Hicks of Montclair, Mrs. Jean Baker, of Newark, and Mrs. Jane Hutchins of Orange. His mother, Mrs. Mary E. Mason Stewart of Newark, a half brother, Rex Stewart of Los Angeles, 10 grandchildren and five great grandchildren. Services will be Friday at 1pm in the James C. Churchman Jr. Funeral Home. 397 Bergen Street, Newark.
