In the Name of God Amen this Sixth Day of November in the Thirteenth Year of the Reign of our Sovereign Lord George the Second by the Grace of God of Great Britain France & Ireland. King Defender of the Faith in Ammo Dom One Thousand Seven Hundred & Forty I Peregrine Sandford of New Barbadoes Neck in the County of Bergen and Eastern Division of New Jersey Yoeman being sick and weak in body but of perfect mind any memory thanks be given unto God there-for. And Calling to mind the mortality of my Body and knowing that it is appointed unto man once to dye do make and ordain this my last will and testament that is to say first and principally I Recommend my Soul unto the hands of God that gave it hoping through Christ to have Eternal Life and my Body I recommend to the Earth to be buried in a decent Christian manner at the discretion of my Executor hereafter named Nothing Doubting but at the General ResurrectionI shall receive the same again through the mighty Power of God and as reconciling such worldly estate wherewith it hath pleased God to bless me in this life I give bequeath and devise in the following manner and form following.
My will is that all my just Debts and Funeral Charges be fully paid and discharged. I will bequeath and devise unto my Dearly beloved Wife Piety Sandford by name the whole and sole use and improvement of all my real and Personal Estate during the time she shall remain my widow for the bringing up and educating my children, and for her support and in case my said wife Fietye should see cause to alter her condition by marriage then and in that case she shall then have and enjoy the whole of my Real and Personal estate no longer than until my youngest child begotten by my of her body shall attain to the age of Eighteen years.
My will is that my said wife Fietye shall have one equal third part of all my Personal Estate I shall dye possessed of as her own property and to her heir s & assigns.
By reason of my son William being deprived of one of his arms my will is that he shall have the sum of Sixty Pounds current money at Eight shillings per ounce laid out in educating my said son William Sandford by my Executor as their discretion. I will bequeath and devise unto all my five children all the remaining part of my Real & Personal estate to be equally divided between them share and share alike (vis) one fifth part of all my Real & Personal Estate unto my Son Enoch Sandford the other fifth part to my said son William Sandford another fifth part to my Daughter Jane Sandford and another fifth part to my Daughter Aphie Sandford and the other fifth part unto my daughter Elizabeth Sandford to be and remain to be and remain to each of my above said children respectively and to their heirs and assigns for ever. My Will further is that if either of my said Children should be removed by death, his her or their share of my said estate shall be and fall to my surviving children to be divided equally share and share alike between them. Lastly I do hereby nominate constitute and appoint my loving brother Michael Sandford my loving friend John Law and my loving Wife Fietye Sandford Sole executors of this my last will and testament giving my said executors full power and authority if they shall think it most for the benefit of my said Children to sell my ___ Real Estate and improve what it fetches to the best advantage for my said children hereby revoking ____ and making void all or any other will or wills bequest or bequests heretofore by me made willed or bequeathed and executor or executors by me in any wise named Ratifying allowing and holding for firm ___ this and no other as my last will and testament. In Witness where of I have hereunto Set my hand and Seal the day and year above written
